Dragonfly Bistro
Tucked into the heart of Aberystwyth at 7 St James's Square, Dragonfly Bistro isn’t your average café or casual eatery-it’s a vibrant, plant-based haven where flavor takes center stage. Whether you're vegan, vegetarian, or just someone who appreciates thoughtfully crafted food, this charming bistro will likely catch your attention from the first glance. And once you’ve tasted the food? Let’s just say, you’ll remember the experience.
What makes Dragonfly Bistro really stand out is how it reimagines comfort food through a completely meat-free lens. Forget bland salads-this place knows how to play with textures and seasoning. The Bistro Burger, for example, is a must-try: juicy, packed with umami, and nestled in a fluffy bun, it's the kind of burger that makes you pause mid-bite. If you're into globally inspired dishes, the Quesadilla and Buddha Bowl offer a fresh, colorful take on lunch-both generous in portion and big on bold flavors.
Then there’s the Meatless Loaf-a clever twist on the classic that feels both nostalgic and innovative. Served warm and hearty, it’s complemented by sides that elevate rather than overwhelm. The Seitan Roast and Chestnut & Mushroom Wellington Nut Roast bring a seasonal richness to the menu, ideal for anyone who loves their plant-based mains with a gourmet flair.
Sundays at Dragonfly? That’s Roast Day, and they do it with finesse. The Sunday Roast here is no afterthought-think layers of nut roasts, herby stuffing, crisped potatoes, and silky vegan gravy that’s surprisingly addictive. The Polenta and Pesto Pasta options round out the warm mains menu, ideal for those looking for gluten-free or lighter alternatives.
Pair your meal with a refreshing ginger beer or perhaps a cozy matcha latte, depending on your mood. For those chasing a caffeine fix, the espresso is notably smooth, and their tea selection is top-tier-herbal blends and classic brews alike.
Of course, dessert deserves a spotlight of its own. Vegan baking isn’t always easy to pull off, but Dragonfly nails it. The Vegan Blueberry Cake is as delightful as it sounds-moist, fruity, and not overly sweet. For those leaning into indulgence, the Oreo Cake and Homemade Vegan Ice Cream don’t disappoint. If you’re lucky enough to be there for Afternoon Tea, you’ll see the pastry artistry in full form-layered cakes, crumbly treats, and all the little extras that make a teatime spread feel special.
Dragonfly Bistro also delivers when it comes to ambience. It’s casual yet curated, perfect for solo diners looking for a quiet bite or friends catching up over matcha and mocktails. Accessibility-wise, it's worth noting that while the bistro doesn’t have a wheelchair-accessible car park, the dine-in space is cozy and accommodating once you’re inside. There’s no delivery option, but they do offer takeaway-ideal for grabbing a quick bite or sweet treat on the go.
As far as offerings go, the bistro covers all the bases: alcohol and beer, coffee and tea, even free water refills-a small touch that says a lot about their thoughtfulness. There’s a clear focus on healthy options, small plates, and of course, an impressive spread of vegan and vegetarian dishes. It’s the kind of place where you can eat clean without compromising on flavor-or fun.
In short, Dragonfly Bistro has carved out a niche for itself in Aberystwyth’s food scene as a go-to for elevated, ethical dining. It’s the type of spot that doesn’t just serve food-it invites you to rethink it.

We came in today for lunch and had a great experience. They have a great assortiment of fresh drinks, tea etc. We ordered the hot dog with garlic mushrooms (yum!), the noodle bowl (yum!) and the potato and leek soup (yum!). One of the highlights is definitely their chips, which are some of the best I've had in the UK, especially with their vegan mayo. All large portions and absolutely delicious! Also super reasonably priced!! The staff are all super friendly :)
